Self Perception

Self Perception is an ongoing self-portrait series that explores my relationship with my own body. While I have created many self-portraits throughout my practice, I have often avoided depicting my figure, making this series an intentional act of self-confrontation and self-study. Through sustained observation, I seek to challenge discomfort and uncover beauty in what initially feels unfamiliar.

In this series, I use pale, cool tones to create a sense of unease while maintaining visual harmony. The figure’s unnatural coloration invites viewers to consider the tension between attraction and discomfort.

Poisonous flowers overlay the composition, serving as symbols of both beauty and toxicity, reinforcing this duality. Through these contrasting elements, the painting examines the complexity of self-perception and the ways we negotiate our relationships with our own bodies.

By turning my gaze inward, I hope to cultivate greater self-acceptance while encouraging viewers to reflect on their own experiences of identity, vulnerability, and beauty.
